What is an Elastomeric Membrane?
The elastomeric membrane for residential, commercial, and industrial flat roofs is made of a robust non-woven polyester reinforcement, coated on both sides with SBS polymer-modified bitumen. The top surface is covered with ceramic granules, which effectively protect the membrane and increase its durability (multiple colors are available).
These two layers are fused during installation using a torch, to form a single, seamless waterproof membrane that fits into all the nooks and crannies of your flat roof.
Advantages of Elastomeric Membrane
Since it is seamless, the elastomeric membrane is very waterproof and effectively protects flat roofs from water infiltration. Moreover, it is a very resistant and durable material that represents a good investment. A well-installed and properly ventilated elastomeric membrane can have a lifespan of up to 35 years with minimal maintenance. This material resists ultraviolet rays and harsh weather conditions.
The elastomeric membrane is available in multiple colors. A white membrane reduces heat islands and helps cool the interior of buildings during heatwaves. It holds LEED certification.
Elastomeric Membrane Installation
Being simply an experienced handyman is not enough to be able to install this state-of-the-art covering specifically designed for flat roofs. The elastomeric membrane must be gradually unrolled onto the substrate, being fused as it progresses using a torch to create a single, seamless, ultra-waterproof membrane. Therefore, it is necessary to be an experienced roofer in elastomeric membrane installation to carry out this work safely.
